Someone way smarter than me once said…
You will be the same person five years from now except for the people you meet and the books you read.
And I agree.
People take knowledge, strategies, and shortcuts they’ve learned over decades–sometimes an entire lifetime–and package them up into these magical little stacks of paper we call books.
Books are a guided tour in the brain of brilliant people.
How To Get The Most Out Of The Books You Read
Make books an even better investment of time for you by asking these questions:
- What is the ONE area of my life that if I improved it, would drastically improve my overall life? Maybe that’s your confidence, your ability to set boundaries, or charge what your worth, etc.
- What is the BEST book I can find on it to read ASAP?
Focus on reading books that are about problems you are trying to solve in your life RIGHT NOW.
I want to set you up for as much success in 2017 as possible. If you’re going to make a big change via a book, these are the seven I recommend.
7 Bad Ass Books That Will Change Your Life in 2017
(not organized in order of awesomeness, each will equally knock your socks off…)
If you’re feeling overwhelmed with goals and ideas, or need to figure out how to focus your energy on one thing at a time so you can build your career, lose weight, get in shape, work on your relationships, etc. make this book your bedside bible.
NOTE: I resisted reading this book for a long time because I thought it was going to be another “productivity” book. I’m an idiot, don’t make the same mistake.
2. The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles This book should be on the shelf of every creative person on the planet. Especially if you want to write more, create more, or move forward on challenging projects.
The best book you can read right now if you want to find the work you were “meant to do.” Doing the work you were “born to do” isn’t just about discovering your passion. You need three things (that often aren’t talked about).
How would your life change right now if you loved yourself with the same intensity you would use to pull yourself up if you were hanging off a cliff with your fingers? This book transformed my life in 57 pages.
In 2016 I transformed by relationship with “stuff.” I’ve never felt more clear, organized, and happy in my physical space. Not to mention, the author teaches you a bad ass way to fold your clothes that makes navigating your drawers 756% easier! (I’m pissed I JUST NOW learned this at 29!)
They should have titled this book, “How To Actually Get Off Your Ass and Move (Even If You Hate Exercising).”
This isn’t a “diet” book. It takes all the most common barriers we build to keep us from exercising and squashes them. My entire life I hated exercise… until I read this book.
Did you know the most creative people are actually just modern day thieves?
When you understand great creatives aren’t creative, but epic “idea collectors,” you will become more confident about your creative abilities. I think it should be required reading for every human who consider themselves “creative.”
BONUS: Want to know how I increased my reading by 114% in less than six months (almost effortlessly)?
One of my best friends bought me a Kindle for Christmas.
If you truly want to read more in 2017, get one. The best part is you can get free samples of any book you are considering to “try-before-you-buy.”
It’s like going to the library and getting to browse the first few chapters fo’ free without putting pants on!
And damn, no pants parties feel G-O-O-D. Get your pants-less party supplies here.
PPS. Books are the best things to buy for people you love during the holidays. It’s a great way to buy a gift that doesn’t break the bank but also says, “I put some thought into this.” I’d highly encourage you to think of someone you need to buy a gift for and grab them one of the above recommendations.
What is one of the best books you read this year? Let me know here.
