A friend and I recently explored an annual art show here in Austin. This art show is unusual in the aspect that it takes place inside the studio spaces where artists actually create their work and are not often accessible to the public.
I’ve always been mystified by spaces where others breathe life into ideas.
Creative spaces are incubators where scattered thoughts are collected and then crafted into something tangible. Something you can see, touch, feel.
They are a battleground for self doubt and self criticism and simultaneously the arena where it is overcome when the art is released into the world.
The fabric of a creator is tested and expanded in these spaces. This is where they grow as an artist more than any other place on earth. Creative zones are divine my friends.
Experiencing all these sacred spaces ironically made me realize there doesn’t have to be a sign on the door and four walls to create art. As individuals we are all tested and growing every day in life and therefore,
Everything you do can be a form of art.
The way you prepare your food can be an artistic display of self love. Do you take the time to prepare your meals in a way that makes dinner an experience or is it just an unavoidable task? Do you pack your lunch in beautiful containers that make your eyes sing or do you nuke it in ugly mismatched Rubbermaid?
The way you navigate traffic on the way to work deploys the art of patience. Do you drive in a way that leaves you flustered or do cherish your commute because it’s an opportunity to stay present and prepare yourself for the day ahead?
Art is already abundant in our lives.
The way you raise your children can be an art.
The way you love your partner can be an art.
The way you handle stress can be an art.
When something is craft, you slow down and appreciate it.
You care about the details. You strive to do it better every single day. You have more patience with the struggles. You love it. You adore it. And you protect it. Even when it tests you and it stretches you.
Art can be in every area of your life if you choose to slow down and invest your energy in it.
Slow down. Breathe it in. Give a damn. Focus on less tasks and more presence.
How does it feel when you think about a task you’re doing as art?
I promise when you do this, you’ll be astounded by how much beauty already surrounds you.
What can you turn into art in your life right now?
